Occupant Safety
Smoke Alarm
The smoke alarm is located on the ceiling in the main living
area of your RV. It is intended to help reduce injury or loss of
life in a fire. Proper use can give you time to escape, but they
are not foolproof. Smoke alarms only sound when smoke
reaches them.
• Smoke alarms MUST be properly located, installed,
and maintained.
•
Individuals with hearing loss or certain medical
problems should consider using warning devices
that provide both audible and visual signals
Operation
Check that a 9-volt battery is correctly connected. When the
battery is supplying power, the red LED will flash. If smoke is
detected by the sensor, a loud alarm will sound until the air is
cleared.
If the smoke alarm sounds
During an alarm, you will hear a loud, repeating horn pattern
and the red LED will flash rapidly.
• The alarm warns you of a potentially dangerous
situation that requires your immediate attention.
•
Never ignore any alarm.
Ignoring the alarm
may result in injury or death.
• EVACUATE the RV first,
then
• Call 911 from a safe location.
How to test
It is important to test the smoke alarm at least once every week
to make sure it is working properly. Stand at arm's length from
the alarm when testing. The alarm horn is loud and may be
harmful to your hearing.
1. Press and hold the
TEST
button on the smoke alarm cover
until the alarm sounds (the alarm may continue for a few
seconds after you release the button).
2. If alarm does not sound, make sure that it is receiving
power and test it again.
3. If it still does not alarm, replace it immediately.
Never use an open flame
from a match or lighter to
test the smoke alarm; you
may accidentally ignite
and set fire to the smoke
alarm and your RV. If the
smoke alarm does not
test properly, replace it
immediately.
Test Smoke Alarm
operation after the RV has
been in storage, before
each trip and at least once
per week during use.
