- Replace the air filter and reassemble the various
components, reversing the removal procedure.
- An inspection and possible cleaning (with com-
pressed air) of the air filter is scheduled every 6000
km in any case.
- The air jet must be directed from the inside to the
outside of the filter (i.e. opposite the direction of
the air flow during normal operation of the engine).
- Any deposits of condensate out of the engine oil
caused by blow-by can be removed via the pipe
shown in the figure.
N.B.
FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE RULES REGARDING CLEANING OF THE FILTER ELEMENT CAN
LEAD TO IMPROPER LUBRICATION OF THE ELEMENT. POOR LUBRICATION AFFECTS THE
FILTERING CAPACITY. EXCESSIVE LUBRICATION AS WITH A SOILED FILTER CAUSES AN
EXCESSIVELY RICH FUEL/AIR MIXTURE.
CAUTION
WHEN TRAVELLING ON DUSTY ROADS, THE AIR FILTER MUST BE CLEANED MORE OFTEN
THAN SHOWN IN THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE CHART.
WARNING
DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE IF THE AIR FILTER IS NOT IN PLACE THIS WILL RESULT IN EXCES-
SIVE WEAR TO ALL THE PARTS OF THE COOLING SYSTEM.
Engine oil
In 4T engines, the engine oil is used to lubricate the distribution elements, the bench bearings and the
thermal group. An insufficient quantity of oil can cause serious damage to the engine.
In all 4T engines, the deterioration of the oil characteristics, or a certain consumption should be con-
sidered normal, especially if during the run-in period. Consumption levels in particular can be influenced
by the conditions of use (e.g.: oil consumption increases when driving at "full throttle".
