Measuring foreign noise (FN)
The ultrasonic test can be affected by foreign
noises. If the mean value of the measured noise
exceeds the preset limit value, the message
"Testing foreign noise" pops up on the display.
In this case proceed as follows:
Measure the sound intensity at various points
upstream and downstream of the test object.
Compare the measured sound intensity with the
mean value of trap test readings.
If the measured sound intensity is below the mean
value, the test was not impaired by foreign noise.
In this case select the item "Foreign noise NO"
in the menu.
The display shows the measured sound curve and
the test result. The following test results are
possible:
Steam trap O.K.
Faulty
Check
For more information on the test results see table
Test Results in Chapter "Performing Tests".
To save the test result in the data collector tap
the button "Save".
Observe the notes on the test results given in
the table.
If, however, the measured sound intensity is above
the mean value, the test was impaired by the
foreign noise.
In this case select the item "Foreign noise YES"
in the menu.
Press the button "Save".
The display shows the measured sound curve and
the test result. The following test results are
possible:
Cold
FN (foreign noise)
BC (banking-up of condensate)
For more information on the test results see table
Test Results in Chapter "Performing Tests".
To save the test result in the data collector tap
the button "Save".
Observe the notes on the test results given in
the table.
Carrying out a test measurement
The menu item "Test Measurement" allows you to
perform tests without first having to create a test
job on the computer. This is the best option for
newly mounted or modified traps.
You can repeat a test measurement as often as
necessary. It makes sense to do this if you want to
detect and diagnose faults.
The test results of the test measurements can also
be saved. In this case the test is automatically
added to the test job "9999". If this test job does
not exist it will be created automatically.
Select the GESTRA program on the data
collector.
Tap the button "Test Measurement".
Buttons indicating the possible places of installation
"Steam tracers", "Steam line" and "Heat
exchanger" pop up.
Tap on the button with the desired place of
installation.
Buttons indicating the different types of steam traps
pop up. The following trap types are available:
thermostatic bimetallic
thermostatic capsule (with membrane regulator)
ball float trap
inverted bucket trap
thermodynamic
Tap on the button with the desired trap type.
