PORT MIRRORING & SETUP
CHAPTER 9: PORT MIRRORING & SETUP
In Example 9-1, ports 11 and 12 are given specific names. Ports 9 and 13 are active, as
shown by the link status. Port 13 is set to 100 Mbps, and all other ports are set to 10 Mbps.
All ports are set to auto sensing (speed).
The port
speed
and
duplex
(data transfer operation) settings are summarized below.
The
speed
setting defaults to auto and senses speed and negotiates with the port at the
other end of the link for data transfer operation (half-duplex or full-duplex). The “auto”
speed detection uses the IEEE 802.3u auto negotiation standard for 100Base-T networks. If
the other device does not comply with the 802.3u standard, then the port configuration on
the switch must be manually set to match the port configuration on the other device.
Possible port setting combinations for copper ports are:
• 10HDx: 10 Mbps, half-duplex
• 10FDx: 10 Mbps, full-duplex
• 100HDx: 100 Mbps, half-duplex
• 100FDx: 100 Mbps, full-duplex
Possible port settings for 100FX (fiber) ports are:
• 100FDx (default): 100 Mbps, full-duplex
• 100HDx: 100 Mbps, half-duplex
Possible port settings for 10FL (fiber) ports are:
• 10HDx (default): 10 Mbps, half-duplex
• 10FDx: 10 Mbps, full-duplex
Gigabit fiber-optic ports (Gigabit-SX and Gigabit-LX):
• 1000FDx (default): 1000 Mbps, full-duplex only
• Auto: The port operates at 1000FDx and auto-negotiates flow control with the
connected device.
