Restarting your computer
If your computer does not respond to keyboard or mouse input, you may have
to close programs that are not responding. If closing unresponsive programs
does not restore your computer to normal operation, you may have to restart
the computer.
To close unresponsive programs and restart your computer:

Press C
TRL
+A
LT
+D
EL
. A window opens that lets you close a program that
is not responding.

In Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows 98, select the
program that is not responding.

In Windows NT, click
Task Manager
, then select the program that is not
responding.

Close the program by clicking
End Task
.

If the computer does not respond, turn off the computer power, wait ten
seconds and turn the power on again.
As a part of the regular startup process, a program to check the disk status
runs automatically. When the checks are finished, Windows starts.
Important
If the computer does not turn off immediately, you may
need to hold the power button down for a few seconds to
turn the computer off.
