3.7.2 RUNNER SHOES
The choice is depending to the seed type (see Fig. 22):
1)
runner shoe for shallow planting of vegetables and other
small seeds;
2) strip planter shoe (60 mm) to seed carrots;
3) double row shoes (50 - 70 mm) (see paragraph 3.7.5).
Important! If the runner shoe does not furrow sufficiently, re-
duce the tension the spring with the crank-handle (10 - Fig. 20).
Excessive wear of the planter shoe leads to irregularities in
the seed spacing.
FURROW OPENER DEPTH ADJUSTMENT
For the shoots to come up well it is important to place the seed at
the right depth on the seeding bed. The handle (8 fig. 20) varies
the height of the furrow opener blade , and so determines the
depth of the furrow on which to place the seed. The graduated
indicator serves to adjust all the furrow openers at the same
depth.
The single row coulter and the double row coulters can be supplied
in two different configurations (Fig. 23) depending on the kind of
seed planting:
A)
Coulter for shallow seeding ;
B) Coulter for deep seeding .
The front cutting edge (Fig. 23) can be easily dismantled: for both
configurations (A e B, Fig. 23) the
normal seeding configuration
can be set up.
DEVICE PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT
The action on the soil of the furrow-opening coulter is determined
by the load of the whole planting unit on the coulter itself
(maximum 35 kg).
Modifiy the load on the coulter with the handle according to the
kind of soil and its preparation (10 Fig. 20).
The handle acts on a spring which, when put into traction, allows
for the load on the coulter to be lightened
- fully released spring = 35 kg;
- compressed spring= 17 kg.
3.7.3 CHANGING THE PLANTING UNIT
- Changing the planting unit from a single row to a strip, or to a
doble rows (see page 174).
