Backup and Restore Configuration
The backup and restoration of the switch configuration is done with the
copy
command. This switch firmware has a capability to maintain three configurations
in the permanent storage. The names of the three configurations are the
‘first-config’, ‘second-config’, and ‘third-config’. The configuration copied to the
‘startup-config’ becomes effective after reboot.
If you back up the current configuration to a server, use the
copy
command as in
the following example. The current -- startup-config, is copied to the file named
‘startup-config.backup’ in the server with IP address 192.168.1.10.
#copy nvram:startup-config tftp://192.168.1.10/startup-config.bkup
In the same way, you back up the second configuration with the following
command.
#copy nvram:second-config tftp://192.168.1.10/second-config.bkup
The restoration of the configuration file is a reverse operation of the backup. If you
restore the ‘startup-config.bkup’ file above into the switch, use the following
command, and reload the configuration or reboot the switch.
#copy tftp://192.168.1.10/startup-config.bkup nvram:startup-config
#reload configuration
The configuration file is checked at the download to the switch, and if it contains
any format or command error, it would not be saved in the configuration.
