You have installed a USB
device. Your LIFEBOOK
notebook does not recog-
nize the device, or the
device does not seem to
work properly.
(continued)
In Windows Vista, you
must either have any
USB device connected
before booting or wait a
few minutes after boot-
ing before connecting
it.You must wait a few
minutes
(Microsoft Windows Vista users only)
: When attaching a USB
device, do one of the following: Be sure to attach the device
BEFORE turning on your system, OR, wait for approximately
three minutes after the system boots up before attaching the
device.
If you prefer not to wait the prescribed time to connect your USB
device, you must disable the Selective Suspend feature. To do so,
go to Start > Control Panel. In the left panel, select Classic view.
Click on Power Options > Change plan settings > Change
advanced power settings. Select USB settings, then select Dis-
abled from the pull-down menu for USB selective suspend setting.
Click [OK] to complete the process.
ExpressCard Problems
A card inserted in the
ExpressCard slot does not
work or is locking up the
system.
The card is not properly
installed.
Remove and re-install the card.
See “ExpressCards™/Smart
Cards” on page 73.
The card may have
been installed while an
application was running,
so your notebook is not
aware of its installation.
Close the application and restart your notebook.
Your software may not
have the correct soft-
ware driver active.
See your software documentation and activate the correct driver.
You may have the
wrong I/O address
selected for your card
device.
See your PC Card/ExpressCard documentation to determine the
required I/O address. Change the settings in the Device Manager.
Power Failures
You turn on your LIFE-
BOOK notebook and noth-
ing seems to happen.
The primary battery is
installed but is faulty.
Use the Status Indicator panel to verify the presence and condition
of the batteries.
See “Status Indicator Panel” on page 22.
If a bat-
tery is indicating a short, remove that battery and operate from
another power source or replace that battery.
