Installing SeriTek/6G2+2 in ThunderTek/PX
The SeriTek/6G2+2 can be installed in the
ThunderTek/PX by following the instructions found on
page 9-11 of the PX manual.
Mounting posts (2) are
sold separately
for mounting the SeriTek/6G2+2 inside
the ThunderTek/PX. If you will be using a port multiplier
enclosure like the SeriTek/5PM, please be sure to install
the latest SeriTek/6G2+2 driver as without the driver
only the top drive of the 5PM will be recognized.
•
The SeriTek/6G2+2 host adapter is not recognized
Check the SeriTek/6G2+2 adapter by ensuring it is properly seated in the PCI-Express slot
on the motherboard. Verify the correct driver is installed and that the OS is supported.
•
My hard disk won’t mount
Check cables and connections. Ensure the 7-pin Serial ATA cable is properly oriented to
the connectors on the SeriTek/6G2+2 host adapter and the external enclosure. Ensure the
hard drives in the enclosure are properly powered and formatted for the OS.
Apple System Profiler
1. Open
Apple System Profiler
by clicking “About this Mac”, in the
Finder while holding the
option key
, click on “System Information”.
Apple System Profiler will now open.
Select
PCI Cards
.
Under
PCI Cards
section, SeriTek/6G2+2 should be shown.
2. If SeriTek/6G2+2 is not listed, re-seat the card in the PCI-Express slot by removing and
reinserting it and then restart the Mac Pro. If the SeriTek/6G2+2 still doesn’t show up in
the
Apple System Profiler
, verify the proper FirmTek driver is installed. The
SeriTek/6G2+2 driver can be found on the FirmTek CD or www.firmtek.com.

Transfer rate seems less than SATA 6G specified max. of 600 Mbytes/sec.
The 600 Megabyte/Sec speed is the theoretical limit. It is much higher than the speed
provided by any single 3.5” SATA hard disk. A high performance 6G SSD will more
accurately display the available bandwidth provided by the SeriTek/6G2+2.
•
Does the SeriTek/6G2+2 work with all Mac and PC computers?
No, SeriTek/6G2+2 only works with desktop computers with at least one 4x or higher PCI-
Express slot available and Mac OS X 10.6 and above or Windows 7 or later. If your system
lacks PCI-Express slots, a PCIe expansion chassis can be used with the SeriTek/6G2+2
and Thunderbolt enabled computers.
•
Does the SeriTek/6G2+2 work with Boot Camp?
Yes, Windows 7/8 are supported with direct connect enclosures like the miniSwap/ES. The
SeriTek/6G2+2 provides additional storage when booted from an internal Boot Camp
volume. Booting Windows 7/8 is unsupported whether the card is used in a PCIe slot or
with a Thunderbolt Expansion chassis.
•
Mac OS X Boot drive on the SeriTek/6G2+2 will not boot
The SeriTek/6G2+2 is bootable with Mac OS X 10.6.x or later. The Mac OS X installer can
be used to create a boot drive. To create a multi-drive Bootable RAID or any 5PM Boot
configuration, please use CarbonCopy Cloner to clone the internal Boot drive that already
has the FirmTek 6G2+2 driver installed - to the target boot volume on the SeriTek/6G2+2.
The 6G2+2 driver must be installed to recognize drives in the SeriTek/5PM. The Apple
Recovery Partition is not supported with RAID volumes.
