8.3.2
Transverse levelling of the table
Position the spirit level in a transverse direction on the lathe guides under the spindle and
check the bubble.
Position the spirit level in a transverse direction on the table guides under the tailstock and
check the bubble.
Frequently repeat these operations and, if necessary, make small corrections, using suitable
shims.
8.3.3
Levelling the lathe guide rails
Place the level on the sides of the machine and move it slowly along its entire length while
checking that the bubble does not change.
If the bubble moves, adjust the support points of the table, using the shims, until a uniform
level is achieved over the the entire travel of the carriage.
Periodically check these measurements (at least every six months).
Levelling the machine perfectly is one of the first and most essential steps to carry
out before using the machine.
8.4
Operations before starting the machine.
8.4.1
Cleaning the machine
Before using the machine, you must remove the anti-rust protective coating applied to
protect it during transport. For this operation, use a suitable solvent.
8.4.2
Lubrication and greasing
Before you start the machine, it should be lubricated and greased as described in section
11.1, on "Lubrication".
8.4.3
Connection to the power supply network
Prepare a power cord of suitable length, fitted with
a plug and a socket at the two ends.
Connect the end of the power cord to the socket at
the rear of the machine.
Connect the power cord plug to a 230 V / 50 Hz
mains socket, as indicated on the plate attached to
the Lathe.
