Appendix A: Working with Markers
Usually, neither Freestyle 2 nor SCENE require artificial targets,
so-called markers, to produce scans that can be registered. But
there are situations where markers can be helpful, for example
when the area you are scanning does not have well-defined
planes, or if you want to register a Freestyle 2 scan with a FARO
Focus Scan. A set of 20 unique markers is included with the
Freestyle 2 kit.
for printing can be downloaded from the
FARO Knowledge Base.
Rules for Using Markers
•
The markers are numbered. Ensure that every marker plate in
the scan has a unique number. Do not use plates with duplicate numbers.
•
When using self-printed markers, place them only on flat surfaces.
•
Do not move the markers until the scan project is finished. Especially outdoors, you can place
weights (e.g., stones) on the corners of the markers. The weights must not cover or cast a shadow on
the pattern on the marker plate.
•
The pattern must be easily and clearly visible.
•
Position the markers in an irregular pattern. Do not position symmetrically.
•
Place in different distances to the object. Avoid a linear alignment.
•
Ideally, a marker plate should be captured at least twice in a scan.
