Alarm Tests

Alarm
Test
Expected Result
Calibration Fail
Power on and allow unit to calibrate
automatically
Arms move away from BVM
Limit switch closes
Arms move inward to contact BVM.
AC Power Loss /
Power Off
Power on and allow unit to calibrate
completely with arms touching the
BVM.
Unplug the unit from the wall
Device loses power.
Alarm activates.
If device is re-energized, alarm will dismiss.
High Pressure
Relief
Set High Pressure Alarm to 70 cmH20.
Apply pressure to the test lung to
prevent it from inflating.
PRV will open and limit PIP to less than 70
cm H
2
0. Movement of the inner red
diaphragm can be observed.
Observe measured PIP for maximum
pressure reached when the PRV is activated.
Note: The tightness of the cap on the PRV
regulates the relief pressure.
High PIP
Set the High PIP alarm to 45cmH20.
Apply pressure to the test lung to
prevent it from inflating.
After alarm has been activated release
the pressure on the test lung.
High PIP limit exceeded.
Arms retract and abort breath.
Alarm activates.
System continues to deliver breaths.
If High PIP condition clears, alarm will self-
dismiss after 2 normal breaths.
Low PIP
Disconnect patient circuit from the test
lung.
Reconnect test lung
PIP pressure drops to zero.
Alarm activates.
System continues to deliver breaths.
If Low PIP condition clears, alarm will self-
dismiss after 2 normal breaths.
High PEEP
Set the PEEP Valve to 10cmH20, and set
the High PEEP alarm to 5cmH20.
Reset High PEEP Alarm to 15cmH2O.
PEEP pressure increases beyond alarm limit.
Alarm activates.
System continues to deliver breaths.
If High PEEP condition clears, alarm will self-
dismiss after 2 normal breaths.
Low PEEP
Set the PEEP Valve to 10cmH20, and set
the Low PEEP alarm to 15cmH20.
Reset Low PEEP Alarm to 5cmH2O.
PEEP pressure drops to zero.
Alarm activates.
System continues to deliver breaths.
If Low PEEP condition clears, alarm will self-
dismiss after 2 normal breaths.
High Respiratory
Rate
Set the RR to 30bpm.
Set the High Respiratory Rate alarm to
25bpm.
Set the RR to 16bpm.
Alarm activates if breath rate exceeds High
Respiratory Rate (RR) limit.
System continues to deliver breaths.
If High RR condition clears, alarm will self
dismiss after 2 normal breaths.
