Cleaning and maintenanCe
Apart from the occasional battery change, the product is maintenance-free for you. Maintenance
or repair work may be performed only by qualified personnel or a specialised repair shop. There
are no components inside of the product that need maintenance by you, this is why you should
never open it (apart from the approach to insert/replace the batteries, described in these operat-
ing instructions).
To clean the exterior of the base station and outdoor sensor, a dry, soft and clean cloth is suf-
ficient.
Do not press too hard on the display of the base station, this may cause scratch marks or the
display to malfunction; furthermore, the display might break.
Dust on the base station can be easily removed with a long-haired, soft and clean brush and a
vacuum cleaner.
To remove stronger soiling on the outdoor sensor, use a soft cloth that is slightly moistened with
lukewarm water.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, cleaning alcohol or other chemical solutions, since these
could damage (discolouring) to the housing or even impair operation.

statutory requirements.
b) batteries and rechargeable batteries
As the end user, you are required by law (Battery Regulation) to return used batteries and re-
chargeable batteries. Do not dispose of used batteries in the household waste!
Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing hazardous substances are labelled with this
symbol to indicate that disposing of them in the household waste is forbidden.

k) Warning of icing
A smallsnowflake icon (position of the icon: see
arrow on the right image) appears to the right of the
outdoor temperature, if the outdoor temperature is
in the range of -2 °C to +3 °C (+28 °F to +37 °F).
If the temperature is beyond this range, the snow-
flake icon disappears again.
i) display lighting
Briefly pressing the “SNOOZE/LIGHT” button (13) will activate the display lighting for a few sec-
onds. Afterwards, it goes out automatically to save power.
m) Weather forecast
The base station calculates a weather forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours from the changes in
the atmospheric pressure over the last few hours/days. The achievable accuracy is approx. 70%.
Sunny
partially overcast
overcast
rain
Please note:
-
If „Sunny“ is displayed at night, this means a clear night with clearly visible stars.
-
The display does not represent the momentary weather situation, but is a forecast for the next
12 to 24 hours.
-
The calculation of the weather forecast based only on atmospheric pressure results in a maxi-
mum accuracy of about 70%. This means that the real weather can be totally different on
the following day. Since the measured atmospheric pressure is only valid for an area with a
diameter of about 50 km, the weather can also change quickly. This is especially the case in
mountainous areas and high mountain regions.
Therefore, don‘t depend on the weather forecast of the base station, but inform yourself lo-
cally when you would like to hike in the mountains, for example.
-
In case of sudden or larger air pressure fluctuations, the display symbols are updated to indi-
cate the weather change. If the display symbols do not change, either the air pressure did not
change or the change occurred so gradually that it cannot be registered by the base station.
-
If the weather forecast shows „Sun“ or „Rain“, the display will not change even if the weather
improves (display „Sun“) or deteriorates (display „Rain“) since those symbols already display
the two extreme conditions.
The symbols indicate a weather change for the better or worse, which, however, does not have
to mean sun or rain (as indicated by the symbols).
-
After the first insertion of batteries, you should not pay attention to the weather forecasts for
the first 12 to 24 hours, because the base station must first collect air pressure data in this
period at a constant height above sea level before being able to make a more exact forecast.
-
If the base station is brought to a significantly higher or lower location than the original site
(e.g., from the ground floor to the upper storeys of a building) the base station may errone-
ously detect a change in weather.
n) Reset
-
If only meaningless characters appear on the display of the base station, briefly press the „RE-
SET“ button (16) using e.g., a toothpick. Alternatively, remove the batteries and replace them
again after a few seconds.
-
The outdoor sensor can be reset too. Press the „RESET“ button (20) in the battery compart-
ment using e.g., a toothpick.
Afterwards, start the search for available outdoor sensors on the base station by briefly press-
ing the „SENSOR“ (12) button.

a) base station
The display contrast decreases considerably when the batteries run low. In that case, replace the
batteries with new ones. In this process, all settings and data will be lost. The process is described
in the chapter “Commissioning”.
b) Outdoor sensor
The outdoor sensor sends a message to the base station indicating that the batteries are weak.
A battery icon appears to the left of the outdoor temperature. In that case, replace the batteries
with new ones.
If the outdoor sensor is not recognised after the battery replacement, perform a manual search
on the base station to find the available outdoor sensors (briefly press the “SENSOR” button (12)).
Range
The transmission range of the radio signals between the outdoor sensor and the base station is up
to 50 m under optimum conditions.
However, this range specification refers to the so-called “free-field range”.
However, this ideal arrangement (e.g., base station and outdoor sensor on a plain, even meadow
without trees, houses, etc.) never exists in practice.
Normally the base station is set up at home and the outdoor sensor, e.g., is located next to a
window.
Due to the different influences on the radio transmission, no specific range can be guaranteed.
However, trouble-free operation is usually possible in a single family house. If the base station
does not receive any data from the outdoor sensor (despite new batteries), please shorten the
distance between the outdoor sensor and base station or change the location.
Sometimes the range can be considerably reduced due to:
-
Walls/reinforced concrete floors
-
Coated/vapour-deposited insulating glass panes, aluminium windows
-
Proximity to metallic & conductive objects (e.g., heating elements)
-
Proximity to human bodies
-
Broadband interferences, e.g., in residential areas (DECT telephones, mobile phones, wireless
headphones, wireless speakers, other wireless base stations, baby surveillance devices, etc.)
Proximity to cables, electric motors, transformers, power supply units, computers
-
Proximity to mains sockets, mains cables
-
Proximity to improperly shielded or uncovered operating computers or other electrical devices
