2. Correct use
Light grids and light barriers series LCA are opto-electronic protective equipment.
As per EN 61496-1 they represent electro-sensitive protective equipment of type 4 for the protection of persons.
This means:
Ì Starting commands that cause a dangerous machine function must become active only when the safety outputs on the
receiver are active.
Ì The interruption of one or more light beams will trigger a stop command.
Before the device is used, a risk assessment must be performed on the machine, e.g. in accordance with the following
standards:
Ì EN ISO 13849-1, Safety of machinery – Safety-related parts of control systems – Part 1: General principles for design
Ì EN ISO 12100, Safety of machinery – General principles for design – Risk assessment and risk reduction
Ì EN 61496-1, Safety of machinery. Electro-sensitive protective equipment. Part 1: General requirements and tests
Ì IEC 62061, Safety of machinery – Functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic
control systems.
Correct use includes observing the relevant requirements for installation and operation, particularly based on the following
standards:
Ì EN ISO 13849-1, Safety of machinery – Safety-related parts of control systems – Part 1: General principles for design
Ì EN 60204-1, Safety of machinery – Electrical equipment of machines – Part 1: General requirements
Ì EN 61496-2 – Safety of machinery. Electro-sensitive protective equipment. Part 2: Particular requirements for equip-
ment using active opto-electronic devices
Ì EN ISO 13855-1 - Safety of machinery. The positioning of protective equipment in respect of approach speeds of parts
of the human body
Series LCA devices are only allowed to be combined with the intended components in the LCA family.
Several devices are allowed to be connected in series only using devices intended for series connection with series LCA
devices. Check the operating instructions for the related device. Combination with light grids or light curtains from other
manufacturers is not allowed.
A maximum of 3 devices are allowed to be operated in a series connection.
Important!
The user is responsible for the proper integration of the device into a safe overall system.
For this purpose, the overall system must be validated, e.g. in accordance with EN ISO 13849-2.
1. LCA 4 TR (with integrated additional functions)
Series LCA 4 devices consist of a transmitter and receiver. Internal additional functions permit a check on the feedback from
external contactors, the management of manual/automatic operation; different ranges can also be set.
2. LCA 4 TR M/S (MASTER/SLAVE)
Series LCA 4 devices consist of two to a maximum of three transmitter - receiver pairs. The pairs consist of one MASTER
device and one to two SLAVE devices. These devices are connected in series.
LED displays on the transmitter and receiver make it possible to undertake diagnostics on the system state.
Internal errors are evaluated by the device.
