2. Correct use
Light grids and light barriers series LCA are opto-electronic protective equipment.
As per EN 61496-1 they represent electro-sensitive protective equipment of type 2 for the protection of persons.
This means:
Ì Starting commands that cause a dangerous machine function must become active only when the safety outputs on the
receiver are active.
Ì The interruption of one or more light beams will trigger a stop command.
Before the device is used, a risk assessment must be performed on the machine, e.g. in accordance with the following
standards:
Ì EN ISO 13849-1
Ì EN ISO 12100
Ì EN 61496-1
Ì IEC 62061
Correct use includes observing the relevant requirements for installation and operation, particularly based on the following
standards:
Ì EN ISO 13849-1
Ì EN 60204-1
Ì EN 61496-2
Ì EN ISO 13855-1
Series LCA devices are allowed to be combined only with the intended components in the LCA family.
Combination with light grids or light curtains from other manufacturers is not allowed.
Important!
The user is responsible for the proper integration of the device into a safe overall system.
For this purpose, the overall system must be validated, e.g. in accordance with EN ISO 13849-2.

LCA 2 TR (with additional functions integrated)
Series LCA 2 devices consist of a transmitter and receiver. Additional internal functions permit a check on the feedback from
external contactors, the management of manual/automatic operation and the setting of different ranges.
Important!
Ì The devices of type LCA are intended for use in stop category 1.
Ì Use in stop category 0 is allowed only in compliance with the required safety distances.
Ì The devices do not offer any protection against physical hazards (ejection of parts, heat, radia-
tion). A guard must be used in this situation.
