Appendix C: Trouble Shooting Guide
Problem:
No communication with the central station computer on COM1
Solution:
Ensure that the cable used is an AT modem cable and connected properly.
Check the serial port configuration of the receiver and the computer.
Check the computer software setup.
Examine the output of the receiver with a terminal program.
Problem:
Bad communication with the central station computer
Solution:
The automation software is not compatible with the receiver. Contact the software manufacturer for
software upgrades.
Check the serial port configuration of the receiver and computer.
Check the serial cable for secure connection
Problem:
Fault in received data
Solution:
The signal on the telephone line is too weak or noisy. Check telephone line connections
Problem:
Telephone line fault
Solution
Check the telephone line connections for cut or short.
Problem:
Faulty call on the Line Card
Solution:
Check that the handshake needed for the control panel is programmed for the Line Card.
Check that the handshake is being sent properly. Use Audio Monitoring option.
Check that the control panel answers the handshake, modify handshake properties if needed.
Problem:
The Line Card messages are not transmitted to the CPM, the Line
Cards may display “CPM Absent”
Solution:
Check the communications bus flat cable connections at the back of the receiver.
Check that the Line Cards are properly installed in the rack and to the backplanes.
Check that the Line Card numbers are unique
Problem:
The “3V Backup Low” and “3V Backup OK” messages are displayed multiple times on the CPM
Solution:
Check that the 3V backup battery is correctly installed. Install one, if missing.
During the replacement of the 3V Backup battery this is normal.
