Microwave overview
Microwaves are converted to heat in foodstuffs. The microwave can be used on its own, or in combination with a different
type of heating.
NOTE!
• The oven remains cool during microwave operation but the cooling fan will still switch on. The fan may
continue to run even when microwave operation has ended.
• Condensation may appear on the door window, interior walls and floor. This is normal and does not
adversely affect microwave operation. Wipe away the condensation after cooking.
Microwave power levels
Select the power level best suited for what you want to do.
Here are some examples of how to use the different power levels.
Power level Use for
100 W Defrosting sensitive/delicate foods
Defrosting irregularly-shaped foods
Softening ice cream
Allowing dough to rise
300 W Defrosting
Melting chocolate and butter
450 W Cooking rice, soup
700 W Reheating
Cooking mushrooms and shell fish
Cooking dishes containing eggs and cheese
900 W Boiling water, reheating
Cooking chicken, fish, vegetables
The microwave power can be set to 900 W for a maximum of 30 minutes. With all other power settings a maximum
cooking time of 1 hour 30 minutes is possible.
Cookware suitable for microwave heating
Make sure your cookware is suitable before using microwave heating.
Cookware suitable for microwave is heat resistant containers made of the following materials.
• Glass
• Ceramic
• Glass-ceramic
• Porcelain
• Heat resistant plastic
You can also use serving dishes to save you from having to transfer food from one dish to another. But use only cookware
with a gold or silver trim if the manufacturer guarantees that they are suitable for use in microwave ovens.
