How do I dimension the
power supply of my
SmartWire-DT topology?
Each SmartWire-DT gateway has a built-in power supply
unit, which provides two separate supply voltages in the
SmartWire-DT network:
• The 15 V DC device supply voltage U
VP
(
device supply
)
for the electronics of the downstream SmartWire-DT
slaves. The SmartWire-DT gateway (or a SmartWire-DT
power feeder module PF2) generates this 15 V DC supply
voltage from the 24 V DC supply voltage applied to the
spring-loaded terminal POW connection.
• The 24 V DC control voltage U
AUX
, if you energize
contactor coils (
contactor supply
) through a Smart-
Wire-DT module DIL-SWD-32-…/PKE-SWD32.
The calculations of the electrical load and the voltage drop
have to be made separately for devices and contactor supply.
Connection of the SmartWire-DT network to the SmartWire-
DT gateway and to the SmartWire-DT power feeder module
is always performed via the 8-conductor SmartWire-DT
ribbon cable. With a cross-sectional area of 0.23 mm²
(AWG 24) per ribbon cable conductor the maximum current
carrying capacity is 3 A conform IEC/EN or 2 A conform
UL 508.
Not until you are in the subsequent SmartWire-DT topology,
e.g. in the case of a surface mounting enclosure, can you use
the SmartWire-DT round cable, which has a cross-section of
0.5 mm
²
for the conductors of the device supply voltage and
contactor supply.
