4.12. Installing top-mounted VTs

It may be desirable to install VTs after voltage withstand testing. Refer
to
5.2.2.1. Preparation for PFWV test
Power Xpert IGX VTs can be mounted either on top of the vertical
section for connection to main bus or mounted remotely and
connected to the cable side.
Top-mounted main bus VTs are located in a superstructure (shipped
separately) which must be mounted on the top of the gear after the
VTs are installed. Individual VTs will be mounted on top of the VT
disconnect tank as follows:
1. Remove roof sheet from the vertical section (save it for
re-installation on the VT superstructure
2. Remove the VT port cover plate from the top of the Power
Xpert IGX tank.
3. Clean the VT inner cone connector using the furnished Cleaning
cloths soaked in cleaning solvent (see section
accessories (included with Power Xpert IGX):.
4. Apply silicone grease to the VT inner cone connection.
5. Lift the VT using the lifting bracket eye and a lifting device rated
for over 220 lbs (100 kg).
6. Lower the VT into position and bolt it into place using
•
(4) M10 x 30 SHCS
•
(4) M10 flat washers
•
(4) M10 split lock washers
7. Connect the VT secondary wiring harness to the VT surface-
mounted connector.
8. When all of the vertical section VTs have been installed and
connected, install the enclosing superstructure (see
).
For each VT superstructure, use 17 sets of
•
M8-1.25 x 30lg Socket Head Cap Screw
•
M8 wide flat washer (under head of screw)
•
M8 wide flat washer (on nut side)
•
M8 split lock washer (on nut side)
•
M8 hex nut
9. Install VT support strap for each VT across the width of the
superstructure using
•
(4) M8-1.25 x 30 lg SHCS,
•
(4) M8 wide flat washer,
•
(4) M8 split lock washer
and connect to the VT mounting bracket using
•
(1) M10 x 30 SHCS
•
(1) M10 flat washer (under head of screw)
•
(1) M10 flat washer (on nut side)
•
(1) M10 split lock washer
•
(1) M10 hex nut
10. Install the roof and side sheets onto the superstructure.
