C445 System Overview
The Power Xpert® C445 is an advanced, global motor manage-
ment relay with full line, load and motor system monitoring
and protection. It is designed to protect single or three phase
AC electric induction motors ranging from 0.3 to 800 A. In the
event of an overload trip C445 disconnect power flow to the
monitored motor. C445 additionally provides advanced monitor-
ing and control algorithms for efficiency, torque, speed, energy
deviation, and voltage loss restart.
C445 offers a modular pass-through design, separating monitor-
ing, protection and control functionality into individual modules.
This allows the user to select the appropriate options for each
module and combine them to meet the exact needs of their
application. The C445 also offers multiple pre-programmed
operation modes to support fast, easy and error-free installation
for the majority of applications.
The Power Xpert® C445 devices are not designed for use in
hazardous areas. They can be installed in non-hazardous areas
to protect motors that are installed in hazardous zones.
CAUTION
Do not use C445 accessory Control User Interface
(catalogue number C445UC-XX) for any purpose when C445
system is commissioned to protect motors installed in
hazardous area.
CAUTION
Do not use C445 non ATEX version BCM ( C445BA-SXXX),
EtherNet/IP and ModBus TCP module with 2-port switch (
C445XC-E), PROFIBUS DPV1 module ( C445XC-P) for any
purpose when C445 system is commissioned to protect
motors installed in hazardous area.
CAUTION
The C445 system is meant to be used for secured plant
control system intranet. Implement user authentication
for safety critical settings listed below per process control
system authentication rules. This will avoid unauthorized
access to C445 system via network ( Profibus/EtherNet/IP
and ModBus TCP) means. The user shall ensure security of
network per industry standard practice.
List of safety critical settings:
•
Motor name plate configuration
•
Starter profile configuration
•
Motor overload and fault configuration
Base Control Module Basic Overview
The base control module is the controller of the C445 system,
providing the various monitoring, protection and control algo-
rithms. Equipped with native I/O connections, communication
card options and USB connectivity, the base control module
provides users with real-time data on the health and status of
their applications. Various pre-configured operation modes are
available that simplify the wiring and logic requirements for the
user.
