SECTION 2: SYSTEM COMPONENTS

2-1 INTRODUCTION

The flexible JCI100 is primarily designed to
provide discrete lighting control.  However,
its flexibility also makes it ideal for other
energy management functions.

Through its ability to be controlled directly by
the Metasys system, the JCI100 can control
a variety of loads beyond simple lighting.
Some examples are fans, chillers, and other
heavy energy consumers that you may wish
to disable “with a flip of the switch.”

--notice--

For clarification purposes, when the
word load is used in this manual or
during any discussion of the system, it
represents an output, such as a relay
or circuit breaker.

2-2 SUPPORTED INSTALLATIONS

The JCI100 is an integrated panelboard
controller (See Figure 2-2.1).  An optional
installation using the Pow-R-Command
Control Cabinet and pigtails to connect to
Smart Breakers in adjacent panelboards is
also possible. Consult with your local Cutler-
Hammer Representative concerning any
nonstandard applications.

The Pow-R-Command 100 JCI100 Controller
is capable of  and operating the BABR,
BABRS, GHBS, & GHQRS Smart Breaker
models.  Instructions unique to a particular
Smart Breaker will be called out separately
in this document.

In addition to the use of Smart Breakers, the
JCI100 is capable of controlling latching
relays.  This is done by mounting the JCI100
in a Pow-R-Command 100 Relay Cabinet.
Figure 2-2.2 illustrates the JCI100 In a Relay
Cabinet.

2-3  PANELBOARD APPLICATIONS

When the JCI100 is used for panelboard
applications, the physical card will reside in
a 5X Control Chassis (Figure 2-3.1).  The
5X Control Chassis contains six primary
pieces.  All components are contained in an
enclosure suited to Class 2 voltage.  These
primary components are the primary fusing,
control power transformer, secondary
power switch, and line filter.  All
components are described in further detail
in the proceeding SUBSECTIONS of this
document.

It must be noted that the 5X control chassis,
Pow-R-Command Control Cabinet, and
Pow-R-Command Relay Cabinet use many
of the standard components.  This  includes
the primary fusing, control power
transformer, secondary power switch, and
line filter.  Those parts that are different are
called out in this document in the
proceeding SECTIONS and SUBSECTIONS.
