9.2.2 STABILISE TIME
The Stabilise Time parameter is used to define the period that allows the residual air in the chamber to
thermally stabilise or equilibrate after the vacuum has been generated, which causes a cooling effect.
Not allowing for this effect could cause erroneous Decay Test results due changes in force changing
as a function of temperature rather than a leak.
Times of between 10 and 20 seconds are normally adequate, however the time may more accurately
be set by fully developing the test method by multiple iterations and adjustments. Generally the harder
the vacuum the less the adiabatic effect has on the result.
The Figure 9.2 illustrates this effect.
