3.1. Operation mode
The principle used is ion exchange. Hard water (water containing calcium and magnesium ions) passes
over a resin bed containing sodium ions. The calcium and magnesium ions stick to the resin and release
the sodium ions into the water.
The softener supplies soft water. The digital display shows the time by default (or optionally, the volume of
water left, depending on the water softener settings).
3.2. Regeneration mode
The resin is saturated after softening a certain amount of hard water. The regeneration phase is based on
running a reverse ion exchange. It replaces the sodium on the resin.
During this process, the resin is backwashed with brine (a mixture of water and salt) in the opposite direction
of flow. After this brining process, the resin is rinsed with mains water. The lime scale and the rinse
water are discharged to the sewer.
Once the machine has reached 75% of capacity, regeneration begins at two o’clock in the morning.
When total capacity has been reached, regeneration begins immediately.
In addition to being time-based, the softener of the Vi range is a volumetric softener, which means that
water used for preparation of brine and water for rinsing of the resins is proportional to the volume of
softened water consumption as measured by the flow meter. The programmer calculates the quantity of
water required for regeneration.
During regeneration, the programmer screen displays the different phases :
: filling the salt container with water
: running the brine over the resin
: rinsing the resin
: return to operating position.
The softener regenerates automatically every four days for health reasons (European standards).
This regeneration is proportional to the volume of fresh water consumption.
1. INSTALL THE SOFTENER ON A LEVEL SURFACE.
2. LEAVE ENOUGH AREA AROUND THE SOFTENER TO ALLOW A
TECHNICIAN ACCESS TO THE SALT TANK AND FOR MAINTENANCE.
3. DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTENER ON A MAINS WHOSE PRESSURE IS
LESS THAN 2 BAR.
4. TO PROTECT THE WATER SOFTENER, THE BYPASS VALVE, THE WASTE-WATER CONNECTION AND THE
SEWER SAFETY OVERFLOWS, THE DEVICE MUST BE FITTED WITH A PRESSURE-REDUCING VALVE.
5. A CHECK VALVE MUST BE INSTALLED BETWEEN THE WATER METER AND THE SOFTENER TO PREVENT ANY
BACKFLOW OF BRINE INTO THE DRINKING WATER SUPPLY.
6. A CHECK VALVE MUST BE PLACED DOWNSTREAM FROM THE SOFTENER TO AVOID HOT WATER BACKFLOW.
7. FOR SHOCK PREVENTION PURPOSES, A SURGE CONTROL MUST BE FITTED DOWNSTREAM FROM THE
WATER SOFTENER.

4. INSTALLATION
We recommand the installation of the softener by an authorized installer.
