FMX Ferromagnetic Surgical System
6
NOTE:
The FMX Disposable Power Module features an integrated air
cooling line, and does not require connection of the additional air line.
Connect the power module to the generator by inserting it
into the connection port on the front of the generator.
An audio indicator will sound, and the LCD Touchscreen Display will
display 2 green checkmarks, indicating that both the power module and
surgical instrument have been properly connected to the generator.
NOTE:
If using an FMX Reusable Power Module, the generator screen will
display how many procedures remain in the service life of the power module
immediately after the power module is connected. If using an FMX Disposable
Power Module, the generator screen will display “Single Use Only.”
NOTE:
For detailed installation instructions for specific FMX surgical
instruments, please see their respective Directions for Use.
CAUTION:
The technology employed in the FMX System is
unique. Electrosurgical handpieces from other manufacturers are
not compatible and may introduce unintended hazards or damage
to the generator if they are used with the FMX Generator.
Preparing Generator for Use
The default display is the power control display. This screen
displays the current power settings, an icon indicating current
audio level setting, an icon indicating if a foot pedal is connected,
and an icon indicating which instrument (if any) is connected.
Some FMX instruments feature dual activation buttons, which allow
the surgeon to quickly toggle between user-selected high and low
power settings. When an FMX instrument with dual activation buttons
is connected to the generator, the power control display will display
2 separate power settings. Pressing the up or down arrow buttons
on the generator display will change the power level until the arrow
is released or the maximum/minimum power level is reached.
NOTE:
Set the power level to the lowest power level
that provides the intended surgical effect.
NOTE:
The power control screen varies slightly depending
on what surgical instrument is connected. Refer to the each
instrument’s Directions for Use for specific information.
Touching the ‘speaker’ icon in the upper left of the power
control display brings up the audio control display.
The default volume setting is the lowest possible volume level. Pressing
the up and down arrow buttons on the audio control display will
change the volume of the tones that are sounded in normal operation.
Touching the ‘back’ arrow will return the display to the power control
display. If there is no activity on the audio control display for 5 seconds,
the display will automatically return to the power control display.
Operating Instructions
There are two ways to activate the surgical instrument.
• Completely press and hold either of the activation buttons on the
surgical instrument to activate the selected power setting.
• Step on the desired foot pedal to activate the selected power setting.
The dark blue pedal is used to activate the high power setting, and
the light blue pedal is used to activate the lower power setting.
To deactivate the instrument, both the button on the instrument
and the foot pedal (if attached) must be released.
CAUTION:
Be sure to allow sufficient time for heating element on the
surgical tip to return to ambient temperature before using as a probe/
retractor. The activation tone is audible for a few seconds following release
of the activation button to indicate that the surgical tip may still be hot.
CAUTION:
Explosion and Fire Hazard: Because the FMX
instruments can produce temperatures high enough to ignite
some flammable gasses, do not use in the presence of flammable
anesthetic mixtures with air, oxygen or nitrous oxide.
Cleaning Instructions
The generator, mains power cord and foot pedal are cleanable
but are not intended to be sterile. Do not allow fluids to
enter the housing of the generator or foot pedal.
