Available surround modes
The surround functions create a live atmosphere in your living room that you can otherwise
only experience in cinemas, stadiums and concert halls.
Select the appropriate surround mode according to the programme source. Please keep in
mind that all surround speakers must be connected so that you are able to enjoy the DTS,
DOLBY DIGITAL, Dolby Pro Logic surround functions. We recommend using the center
speaker for the DTS, DOLBY DIGITAL, Dolby Pro Logic surround operation.
Press the DOLBY DIGITAL key if the programme reaches the receiver via the digital inputs.
Only the digital connection transmits the encoded digital data.
Activate the DOLBY PRO LOGIC or DTS operation if you operate the device in analogue
mode. If a signal in Dolby Digital format is present, the surround mode switches to DOLBY
DIGITAL automatically.
DTS Digital Surround Mode
This device is equipped with the DTS Surround Mode. This mode
enables you to enjoy 5.1 (=6) different output channels with
high-quality digital signals bearing the DTS-brand, as well as DVDs,
Compact Discs etc. This leads to an extraordinarily transparent
stereoscopic sound experience of real 360°. Thus, DTS-programmes
should always be reproduced in DTS-mode. (DTS is a trademark of
DTS Technology, LLC. Produced under licence of the DTS Technology,
LLC.)
DOLBY DIGITAL Mode
This operation mode, as well, enables you to enjoy 5.1 (=6) different
output channels with digital surround sound from Dolby Digital
programme sources.
If you connect a DVD-player with a DOLBY DIGITAL output to the digital input (coaxial or
optical) of your surround receiver and if you play a correspondingly encoded disc, you will
experience excellent sound quality, accurate spatial representation and an optimal dynamic
range. This results from 5 independent audio channels with full frequency range as well as a
subwoofer channel that is called “LFE” (Low Frequency-only Effects channel). This
3-dimensional reproduction of the sound in the room with all its movements and relative
positions is reached by the complete independence of the 6 audio channels from each other.
In this way you are presented surprisingly real and impressive sceneries.
Some Dolby Digital programmes contain information that allows you to compress the
dynamic range of the soundtrack without compromising the sound quality. This results in
“softer” sound effects that are possibly appropriate if you want to watch movies late at
night. You will find more information on the dynamic function on page 17.
