Lap belts with switchable retractors or Automatic
Locking Retractors (ALR).
• Switchable retractors can be switched from
non-locking to locking mode. Most switchable
retractors are switched by fully extending the belt,
after which the belt can retract, but will not extend.
• ALRs allow the belt to be pulled out freely until it is
allowed to begin to pull back in, after which the belt
will not extend.
