Relation between X-ray generating time
Correct exposure time varies depending on the age, gender and bone density of
the patient. The recommended exposure dose is from 300μGy to 600μGy when
measuring without an object.
For general issues pertaining to all radiographic imaging systems, you should refer
to two sources for further information. First, the Image Gently Back to Basics
campaign materials at:
And second, the FDA Pediatric X-ray Imaging webpage:
Additional guidelines for correct exposure times are found in the dosage table
below. This table especially helps ensure that pediatric patients receive the
minimum necessary amount of radiation while still producing diagnostic quality
images.
Radiation Exposure Sensitivity
Radiation exposure is a concern for all people of all ages; however, pediatrics are
more sensitive to radiation exposure. Radiation risk is higher in young children as
they have more rapidly dividing cells than adults. The younger the patient, the
more sensitive they are.
