4-1.7 — Sweep Menu
Access the Sweep menu by pressing the
Sweep
(#3) key on the data keypad to the right of the display. The
Sweep menu
allows the user to set the sweep type, speed, resolution, and various averaging functions.
Sweep Submenu
Sweep Type:
Tap to toggle between
Single
, where the instrument will perform a single sweep and
then pause, and
Continuous
, where the instrument will initiate a new sweep as soon as the
previous sweep is completed.
RF Immunity:
Tap to toggle the degree to which the instrument will reject RF interference in its
measurement. Choose
High
or
Low
, depending upon the needs of your measurement.
Data Points
: Opens a submenu for setting the number of data points in the measurement: 130,
259, 517, 1033, or 2065. The default setting is 259 points.
If your measurement involves a wide frequency range and/or high accuracy (e.g., a DTF test),
more data points are recommended. Be aware that the larger the number of data points, the
longer the instrument will take to conduct a sweep.
RBW:
Opens a submenu for setting the resolution bandwidth in the measurement. You may
choose 1, 2.5, 5, 10, or 25 kHz. The default setting is 2.5 kHz.
Average Submenu
Averaging:
Tap to toggle the averaging function
On/Off
. When On, the measurement acquires
additional samples at each frequency (or power) point and performs the averaging process. Since
this lessens the time between sample acquisitions, averaging is best for removing high rate noise.
Averaging (AVG) Factor
: Sets the number of measurements performed at each frequency point
when averaging is On, from 1 - 999. The default value is 16.
Averaging Restart
: Tap to restart the collection and per-point averaging of measurement data.
Smoothing:
Tap to toggle the trace smoothing function
On/Off
. Trace smoothing performs a
weighted averaging around each frequency point. Note that, since this process combines data at
different frequency points, it can remove valid measurement data and should be used with care.
Smoothing (SM) Aperture:
Sets the magnitude of the smoothing function, from 0.1% – 20%.
