There are two switches that require upgrades. Some operational checking is recommended after
the first switch is upgraded to ensure that a platform outage does not occur before upgrading the
second switch.
IPv4 addresses are supported on Vblock Systems and VxBlock Systems. IPv6 addresses are supported
on VxBlock Systems.
Before you begin
Refer to the Cisco website to access the software upgrade code and review release notes.
Depending on the currently running release, a multi-step upgrade may be required. To verify whether
multiple upgrade steps are required, refer to the section in the release notes titled
Upgrading or
Downgrading to a new release
.
•
Obtain console (terminal) access and management IPv4/IPv6 access.
•
Obtain a Cisco account to download images.
•
Verify there is an SCP, TFTP, FTP or SFTP server to upload the Cisco NX-OS image to the
switch.
Procedure

Go to
to download the Cisco NX-OS bin file system software for the Cisco Nexus
series switch.

Upload the file to the switch with the copy server (TFTP, SCP, FTP, or SFTP) being used.

To back up the switch running the configuration, type:
copy running-config startup-
config

To verify the switch has enough space for the new image, type:
Switch-A#
dir bootflash:

If there is not enough space, type:
delete bootflash:filename

To copy the updated images to the switch, type:
Switch (config)#
copy <ftp | scp>:
bootflash:copy ftp: bootflash:

Type the filename of the nxos bin file from the Cisco download site. For example,
nxos.

For VRF, type:

Type the hostname of the SCP or FTP server.

Type the username and password. The system copies the images to the switch, and the
following message appears:
