1.0 APPLICATION
WARNING: This product is part of a fall arrest system. These instructions must be provided to all users
and rescuers using this equipment. The user must read and understand these instructions before using this
equipment. The user must follow manufacturer’s instructions for each component of the system. Manufacturer’s
instructions must be followed for proper use and maintenance of this equipment. Alterations or misuse of this
equipment, or failure to follow instructions, may result in serious injury or death.
IMPORTANT: Before using this equipment, record the product identifi cation information from the ID label into
the Inspection and Maintenance log in this manual.
1.1 PURPOSE: The ISO Container Fall Arrest Post provides portable fall protection to workers performing
various tasks near the edges of stacked shipping containers. It is designed to quickly engage and disengage
from all ISO type container corner casting without tools or complicated procedures.
1.2 LIMITATIONS: The following application limitations must be recognized and considered before using this
product:
A. ANCHORAGES: The ISO Container Fall Arrest Post must only be installed in anchorages capable of
meeting the strength requirements specified in Section 2.2.
B. SYSTEM
CAPACITY: The ISO Container Fall Arrest Post is for the use of one person only. The maximum
capacity of the system is 141 kg (310 lbs).
C. APPLICATION
RESTRICTIONS: Retractable devices or shock absorbers must have a Maximum arrest
force (M.A.F.) rating of 4 kN (900 lbs) or less & MUST BE installed and used in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions.
D. SWING FALLS: See Figure 2. Swing falls occur when the anchorage point is not in line vertically with the
worker. The force of striking an object in a swing fall may cause serious injury or death. Minimize swing falls
by working as directly in line with the ISO Container Fall Arrest Post tie-off point (A) as possible. Do not
permit a swing fall if injury could occur. Swing falls will significantly increase the clearance required when a
self retracting lifeline or other variable length connecting subsystem is used. If a swing fall situation exists in
your application, contact DBI-SALA before proceeding.
E. FALL
CLEARANCE:
There must be sufficient clearance below the worker to arrest a fall before striking the
lower level or obstruction. Check the clearances required for the fall arrest systems being used.
F. ENVIRONMENTAL
HAZARDS: Use of this equipment in areas where environmental hazards exist may
require additonal precautions be taken to reduce the possiblity of injury to the user or damage to the
equipment. Hazards may include, but are not limited to: heat (welding, cutting), extreme cold, caustic
chemicals, corrosive environments, high voltage power lines, explosive or toxic gases, moving machinery, or
sharp edges. Contact Capital Safety if you have questions about using this equipment where environmental
hazards exist.
G. TRAINING: This equipment must be installed and used by persons who have been properly trained in its
correct application and use. Installation and use of this equipment must be supervised by a qualified person
as defined by EN fall protection standards.
1.3 APPLICABLE
STANDARDS: Refer to local standards, national standards, and EN requirements for more
information on the application of this and associated equipment.
2.0 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
2.1 COMPATIBILITY OF COMPONENTS: Capital Safety equipment is designed for use with Capital Safety
approved components and subsystems only. Substitutions or replacements made with non-approved
components or subsystems may jeopardize the compatibility of equipment and may effect the safety and
reliability of the complete system.
2.2 STRUCTURE LOAD REQUIREMENTS: See Figure 3.
The structure on which the ISO Container Fall Arrest
Post is installed must support the loads applied by
the system during a fall arrest. The post attachment
points may be subjected to both horizontal and vertical
forces. The structure on which the posts are installed
must be sufficiently secured to provide the specified
load capacities.
