One or two person/s can be simultaneously treated with the LD 440 instrument; up to three
persons can be simultaneously treated with the LD 880 and up to four persons with the LD 1100
instrument. There must be a distance of approx. 65 cm to the instruments. The application time
at this distance and with maximum luminous power is about 30 minutes.
By turning the control knob of the timer clockwise on the instrument’s side, the Phototherapy
instrument begins to glow. First the selector switch on the instrument’s front must be turned
into one of the following positions:
Position 1: every 2nd lamp is on
Position 2: all lamps are on
Position 0: no lamp is on, even when the timer is on.
Keep your eyes open during application. You can read or carry out other activities during the
treatment. Every 1 or 2 minutes you should look directly into the phototherapy instrument for a
few seconds. Constant staring into the instrument should be avoided. After the preset
application time has run out, the instrument switches off automatically. It is also possible to
switch off the instrument by turning the timer to zero.
Important:
the Phototherapy Instruments PhysioLight LD 440, LD 880 and LD 1100 must be
operated with the original protective filter in place.
The light therapy unit PhysioLight LD 220 can be used together with a tripod (not included).
Also the light therapy units LD 440, LD 880 and LD 1100 can be used in connection with a
tripod (not included). The supply of the tripod includes a description on how to instal the
PhysioLight LD 220, LD 440, LD 880 and LD 1100 to the tripod.
The activated Daviton
®
(not included) reminds you with an acoustic signal every 90 sec for 3 sec
to look into the light source.
If the treatment takes place at your practitioner it should initially be carried out 5 times per week
for a period of 2 - 3 weeks; thereafter, 3 times per week for a period of 2 - 3 weeks. After that,
treatment should take place as needed or when the symptoms occur again. At home, the
treatment can take place daily, especially during autumn and winter time. The best treatment
time for winter depression is the early morning or the time of the lowest mood. The
premenstrual syndrome PMS is treated most effectively in the evening. As for abnormal shifts
in a person’s day-and-night rhythm (circadian rhythm), i.e. going to bed very early and very early
awakening ) there are two ways of treating them: if you go to bed very early and get up very
early, treatment is most effective in the evening. If you go to bed very late and wake up very
late, treatment is best in the morning.
By using phototherapy the following side effects have been observed: Headaches, nausea,
irritability and burning of the eyes can occur for a short period. Caution is recommended for all
kinds of eye diseases and an eye specialist should be consulted first. Patients who are being
treated with lithium or medicine that can increase the eye’s sensitivity towards light, should
additionally be supervised by an eye specialist when undergoing phototherapy treatment.
An absolute contraindication is not known so far.
The instruments do not need any special maintenance. To clean the outer casing parts of the
instrument, we recommend a mild cleansing agent (as used for glass). First, please disconnect
the power supply. If lamps must be replaced, this should be carried out by an electrician.

(PMMA). The casings of the Physiolight LD 220 - LD 1100 instruments are made of brushed
stainless steel.
Fluorescent lamps as well as instruments marked with the symbol of a crossed out dustbin may
not be disposed via the regular garbage. The electrical and electronic components must be
recycled separately. Please get in touch with your local authority to find the right way of disposal.
