Correct jaw opening position
The jaw opening width should be set to suit the ball size.
Note: A variety of cold bump pull jaws sizes are available. The jaws are
specifically designed for the size of the solder ball to be tested. If in doubt,
consult your engineer.
Position the test piece under the microscope.
Bring the jaws down to the part.
Rotate the jaws to suit the part.
Note: Only a slight adjustment should be necessary.
Adjust the opening using a key on the screw shown below.
Test the action of the jaws manually using the or button after
each adjustment
Repeat as required.
Always take care to align the jaws to the ball.

Work Holder Air Pressure Setting
Once the jaw clamping pressure and opening width have been set up it is
necessary to set up the rising table air pressure using the regulator on the side of
the pneumatic chassis. Before the test is started the airflow will be off. When the
test is started the jaws will come down over the ball and close. When they start to
lift the airflow will be turned on. The aim is to set the air pressure so that the
rising table rises at the same speed as the cartridge so that minimal extra force is
applied to the ball, substrate or jaws. As the weights of samples will vary this will
need to be checked for each new sample.
