• Make sure you keep water sport
participants in view when they are
entering or exiting the yacht.
• Make sure you start from a safe place
with good forward and peripheral
visibility.
• Avoid CO poisoning!
• DO NOT drag or tow within 20 ft (6.1 m)
behind a moving watercraft.
BASIC RULES FOR SAFE BOATING
• Your yacht must be registered and
licensed in the state of principle use.
• Give right of way to slower boats,
rowboats and sailing craft.
• Keep to the right! Observe the Danger
Zone and give right of way to boats in this
zone.
• Do not use your motors near swimmers or
divers.
• Learn the language of the various buoys
and warning signals.
GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS
The USCG is the authority of the waterways;
they are there to help the boating public.You
and your yacht are subject to marine traffic
laws and “Rules of the Road” that are
enforced by the USCG.
There are many pamphlets, prepared by the
USCG, available to you. These pamphlets
explain “Rules of the Road,” signal lights,
buoys, safety, international and inland
regulations and more than is discussed
