5

. Tighten the harness securely by

pulling down on the loose ends of the

 adjusters.

 Illustration J. Note: These

straps should be as tight as the child

  will tolerate.

6

Keep away from the neck, but high
enough to keep shoulder straps on

3.

Secure the foot cups by re-locking the

cam lever in a downward direction.
Note: Be sure that the cam levers rest
completely within the location scallops on
the back of the foot wells.

CAUTION!

When locking down the pull-down or grab bar,

be careful of little fingers.

WARNING!

Child can fall out of seat if harness is not

correctly fastened and adjusted.

OPERATING YOUR BIKE WITH CHILD

SEAT ATTACHED

1.

Only an experienced, strong cyclist should ride with a

child seat attached. The addition of a child seat and child
to the rear of a bicycle shifts the center of gravity rearward
and upward. This results in less weight on the front wheel.
Steering and braking control is altered.

2.

Do not travel faster than 15 m.p.h. The extra weight will

change how your bike handles. You will need to ride
slower. Because of the added weight, it will take longer to
get up to speed and you will need more distance to stop.
While riding downhill with a child seat, you will gain speed
more quickly. You will need to use your brakes early and
often to keep your speed under control. Remember to
apply the rear brake before the front brake, and to use
both brakes. The front wheel may lose traction when riding
up very steep hills. Use extra care in all situations.

3.

Do not ride over curbs, pot holes or other road hazards.

Stop and walk bicycle when approaching dangerous
road conditions (gravel, sand, wet areas, pot holes,
railroad tracks, etc.). Using the child seat off-road can
  injure you and your passenger.

4.

Take a practice ride before you take your child along.

Ride your bike with the seat (weighted to simulate an
occupied seat) in an open area without traffic until you
are skilled in handling your bike with a seat attached.

5.

Do not ride with your seat in inclement weather. If it

ʼ

s

unavoidable, be sure to ride even more slowly than
normal, allowing extra stopping distance. Apply brakes
cautiously and intermittently to avoid skidding. Test brakes
  frequently.
