Getting started
• To start using the nano-router, proceed as follows.
• First pull the permanently attached USB plug down out of the housing.
• Connect this plug to a free USB port on the computer with which you want to con
fi
gure the device.
After the con
fi
guration, you can also operate the router with a standard USB wall plug trans-
former. In that case, the output voltage must be 5 V/DC.
Software installation
• Under MacOS X, the installation occurs completely automatically, since the driver is already installed in the
system.
In the system settings in the Network category, you can check whether the device was successfully recog-
nised. It is shown here as “USB Net...terface”.
The IP address 192.168.111.1 should be displayed after each of the points Router and DNS Server. After
the point IP Address, you should see 192.168.111.100.
• If you have set up the device under Windows Vista
TM
, Windows
®
7 or Windows
®
8, normally an auto-start
window, as when you insert a CD, is displayed after a short waiting period.
In this case, there is a virtual CD stored on the router.
Start
the
fi
le “Setup.exe” to run the installation program.
If the prompt is not displayed, open the Windows
®
Explorer, change to the new CD drive and start the
fi
le
“Setup.exe” manually in the root directory.
Depending on the operating system, the User Account Control of Windows may now display a
window. To continue the setup, you must con
fi
rm with Yes in every instance here; otherwise, the
setup is ended.
With Windows Vista
TM
and Windows
®
7, after the installation, a window normally appears in which you
must select a location for the network. Select either “Home network” or “Work network” here.
With Windows
®
8, when the blue window appears, click on Yes at the right edge, so that the network is
apportioned for home or workplace networks.
• For setup under Windows
®
XP, Windows attempts
®
to
fi
nd the driver.
Ignore this at
fi
rst and start the
fi
le “Setup.exe” to run the installation program.
If the auto-start window for the CD is not displayed, open the Windows
®
Explorer, change to the new CD
drive and start the
fi
le “Setup.exe” manually in the root directory.
The installation runs in the background. As soon as it has
fi
nished, resume the driver search. As a result,
the driver is installed automatically.
Access to the web interface
• Open your web browser. Enter the IP address http://192.168.111.1 in the address list and con
fi
rm with
Enter.
• A screen will appear in which you have to enter the user name “admin” and “password” for the password
(both without quotes). Then click on OK.
Basic con
fi
guration
• As soon as the web interface is loaded, click in the left menu on the point “ULinker Operation Mode”.
• You now have to select the desired operation mode. We explain the 5 options below.
• Use the “Router” mode when you want to connect the device via network cable directly to a DSL or cable
modem. Devices can access the Internet here via WLAN and via the USB connection. An independent
DHCP server runs in the router.
• The AP mode is intended to create a new WLAN access point in your existing network. The connection to
your network must be created here via a network cable. The devices can again be connected via WLAN
or USB. The IP addresses are distributed from your existing router.
• In “Client” mode, the product acts as a WLAN adapter. It is thereby wirelessly connected to your existing
WLAN. Devices can be operated at the RJ45 and at the USB connection. The IP addresses are again
assigned by your router.
• As “Repeater”, the device ampli
fi
es your existing WLAN. It is thus again connected to your network via
WLAN. The SSID (WLAN name) is retained. Devices can be operated here at USB, LAN and via WLAN.
The IP addresses are again distributed from your existing router.
• The “Wireless ISP” mode, “WISP” for short, serves to operate its own small network. The connection to
the Internet thus comes about via WLAN. The DHCP server in the device is active. Computers can be
connected via USB and the LAN port.
• When you have decided on a mode, select this in the menu and con
fi
rm by clicking on the “Apply change”
button. The device restarts and is then set to the mode you selected.
Before you continue with the actual con
fi
guration, we recommend carrying out various basic
settings.
It makes sense, for example, to change the administrator password under “Administration” -
“Password”, to set the time zone under “Administration” - “NTP” or, depending on the mode, to
set up the
fi
rewall under the menu point “Firewall”.
• The simplest way to carry out further con
fi
guration is with the help of the setup program, which is integrated
in the web interface. To do so, click now on the “Setup Wizard” button.
The individual steps for the respective mode are described below. Thus, carry out only the
con
fi
guration of the mode you selected.
