Chapter 5. SERIAL INTERFACE OPERATION
5.1
Overview
To achieve optimal performance and to access the most current remote control commands and queries, make sure to
operate the LPOD with its latest available firmware.
Serial-based remote management of CEFD’s LPOD family of Outdoor Amplifiers / BUCs is available using the ‘
J6 | COM1’
port. This
chapter summarizes key parameters and procedures and their associated remote commands and queries, and provides detailed
instructions for use of the optional serial remote control commands and queries interface.
5.2
Key Operational Parameters / Common Commands and Queries
5.2.1 RF Input Level
The required RF input level to reach the full rated output power of the SSPA is determined by the individual amplifier temperature
compensated gain and specified power rating. For example, if the test data of an SSPA rated for 250W (54 dBm) indicated a temperature
compensated gain of 75 dB, then a signal of
54 dBm – 75 dB = -21 dBm
would yield the approximate rated output power. Increasing input
power beyond this level would result in an output signal with increasingly higher levels of distortion. When you use LPOD attenuation
control, the LPOD may accommodate a higher-level input signal level.
The maximum input level should never exceed 15 dBm, or
permanent damage to the unit may occur.
5.2.2 Attenuator Control
You may use the
ATT
command to attenuate the LPOD gain over its specified range. Full details are available in Section 5.4.
