VERTICAL VENTING
Vertical Venting (“Category I” classified) Total
combined inputs up to 250,000 BTUH
An appliance that operates with a non-positive vent static
pressure and with a vent gas temperature that avoids
excessive condensate production in the vent is said to be
‘Category I’. “B” Vent is classified as ‘Category I’ venting.
The Reflect-O-Ray
®
systems are suitable for a ‘Category I’
vented appliance when the system and venting meets the
following criteria:
Maximum NET exhaust temperature of 400°F (204°C).
6” B-Vent, the system total combined input is 250,000
BTUH or less.
The length of the horizontal portion of the vent run is
less than 75% of the vertical rise length. (e.g.- If the
vertical vent height is 10 ft. (3m), the horizontal run is
less than 7-1/2 ft. (2.3m).
The vent terminates a minimum of 5 ft. (1.5 m) above
the vent terminal connection on the vacuum exhauster.
Horizontal venting sections of the vent pipe must be
installed with an upward slope from the appliance at a
pitch of 1/4 inch per foot (21mm per meter) and must
be supported every 5’ (1.5 m).
The vent terminal must extend a minimum of 6” (15cm)
above the anticipated snow depth but no less than 2 ft.
(61cm) above the roof.
Vertical Venting (Category I) Total inputs up to 250,000 BTUH
Use a maximum of 20' (6 m) of vent pipe and 2 elbows.
Use approved clearance thimble, if
applicable, when passing through
combustible materials. Last section of vent
pipe passing through the roof shall be “B”
Vent pipe, all other materials inside the
building to be single wall vent pipe.
Single wall (Min. 26 ga.) 4" (10 cm) dia. for
combined inputs up to 100 MBH or 6" (15 cm)
dia. for combined inputs up to 250 MBH - By
installer.
