Blanking Panel for Gateway Slots
Removing an Ethernet Gateway Card
To remove an Ethernet gateway card, perform the following steps:
Step 1
If possible, take the Ethernet gateway offline. For more details, see the
shutdown
command in the
Cisco
SFS Product Family Command Reference
.
Step 2
Properly ground yourself to avoid potential ESD discharge and damage to the Ethernet gateway card.
Step 3
Facing the data connection end of the Cisco SFS 3504 Server Switch, pull both levers of the Ethernet
gateway module simultaneously towards you and all the way out.
The levers should automatically lift the securing spring locks as you begin to pull them outward.
Step 4
Pull the gateway module toward you and out of the chassis.
Caution
Do not leave the vacated slot empty. Replace the module immediately or install a blanking panel in the
empty slot.

Installing a Gateway Slot Blanking Panel
To install a gateway slot blanking panel, perform the following steps:
Step 1
Properly ground yourself to avoid potential ESD discharge and damage to the hardware.
Step 2
Remove the module from the slot if it is present.
Step 3
Slide the wire latches of the blanking panel inwards, with your fingers, while inserting the panel into the
chassis slot (see
Figure 4-7
).
Once the panel is completely inserted, release the wire latches to snap back in position and secure the
blanking panel in the slot.
