Chapter 3. Sensors
Important Note on Weir Installation
1. Make sure the clear horizontal pipe at the top of Weir is higher than the top of the PC6 Particle
Counter by 254mm to 305mm (10 - 12 in.). This ensures flow will start reliably through the sensor.
If the Weir is mounted too low, the flow may not re-start reliably through the sensor if flow was
ever lost for any reason.
2. Mount the Weir to the right of the unit (as shown in the following diagram) and ensure there is a
minimum of 100mm between the Weir and the sensor (the sensor protrudes from the right side of
the enclosure). The cap on the sensor may need to be removed at some point for maintenance
and mounting the Weir too close to the sensor will make it impossible to remove the cap without
first removing the weir. Once the PC6 Particle Counter and Flow Control Weir are mounted, the
tubing can be attached to the Weir and Sensor as detailed in the following diagram. Make sure
that the sensor tubing going between the sensor and drain cup is long enough to reach the drain
cup allowing it to slide all the way down on the weir. It is also recommended to leave a little
extra tubing on the bottom of the drain cup. Final adjustment to the drain cup position and tubing
lengths will be discussed in section 3.1.4.3.
