OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

Electrical connection must be carried out in compliance with the regulations and standards in force. Before
connecting the appliance, make sure that the data on the rating plate correspond to those of the mains power
supply. If the appliance has no plug attached, connect the supply cable to a double-pole wall switch with a contact
separation of at least 3 mm for each pole. The appliance can only be considered safe when the yellow-green wire
has been correctly connected to an efficient earthing system. The machine has a terminal marked with the

symbol

which serves for the unipotential connection between different appliances. Before using, remove the

protective adhesive film. When switching on for the first time, do not introduce foods; let the appliance operate
empty (in a ventilated room) for at least 60 minutes. The plates are switched on through independent controls by
turning the knob which activates the thermostat clockwise. The upper plates are self-balancing and the descrent
may be adjusted by means of the brass brake security dowel. The appliance should not be placed near walls,
partitions or such like that are made of inflammable material, otherwise the latter should be covered with fire-
proof heat-insulating material in observance of fire-prevention regulations. If the power supply cable is damaged,
it should de replaced with an H05RN-F cable.
No particular maintenance is required except for the periodical cleaning of the crumbs drawer and plates, using
the brush, for the cast-iron contact grills, or the scraper, for the ceramic-glass ones (provided with the grill).

N.B. Do not use jets of water for cleaning. Disconnect from the power the power supply before starting cleaning

operations.

REPLACEMENT OF THE HEATING ELEMENTS AND OF THE BALANCING SPRING

To replace the heating elements of the upper plates proceed as follows : unscrew the central screw, in the cast-iron
contact grills, or the two screws on the backside in the ceramic-glass contact grills; draw out the lid , remove the
protection plates and unscrew the fastening screw. To replace the heating elements of the lower plates proceed as
follows : turn the appliance upside-down , unscrew the feet,  draw out  the bottom, remove the  protection plates
and unscrew the fastening screws. To replace the balancing springs , either inside or outside the plates proceed as
follows : unscrew the hexagonal-head screw placed on the lower part of the lever arm , draw out the spring from
the balancing pin, then replace and screw again.
