3. MAINTENANCE
The oil pressure in the head must always be completely released before discon-
necting the head from the hose.
All maintenance operations must be performed with the head disconnected from
the hydraulic pump hose.
The tool is robust and requires very little daily maintenance.
Compliance with the following points should help to maintain the optimum performance
of the tool.
3.1) Accurate cleaning
Dust, sand and dirt are a danger for any hydraulic device.
Avoid putting the head on muddy or dusty ground. Any dirt particles may score the ram
and create oil leaks.
Every day, after use, the head must be cleaned with a clean cloth, taking care to remove
any residual particles, especially around the moving parts.
3.2) Replacement of the automatic coupler
To replace the automatic coupler proceed as follows:
– Remove the old coupler
– Carefully clean the thread of the head to remove the old sealant.
– Apply teflon tape to the thread.
– Fit the new automatic coupler and tighten to
30 Nm (22 lbf ft)
.
3.3) Storage
(Ref. to Fig. 4)
When not in use, the head should be stored and transported in the plastic case, to prevent
damage.
Plastic case:
VAL P4
: size 450x290x100 mm (17.7x11.4x3.9 in.); weight 1,3 kg (2.8 lbs).
4. BLADE CHANGING
(Ref. to Fig. 3)
(only perform this operation with the head disconnected from the pump)
The blade may become worn or damaged through prolonged or improper use.
Replace the damaged blade as follow:
– Make sure that the ram (14) is completely retracted. If this is not the case follow the
instructions described in § 2.4.
– With a 5 mm Allen key, remove grub screw (06).
– With a 2.5 mm Allen key, slacken grub screw (05) until the blade (04) is free.
– Remove the old blade from the head.
– Fully insert the new blade.
Ensure that the short side of the blade, is positioned at
the front of the head as illustrated in Fig. 3.
– Fully tighten grub screw (05) and fit the security grub screw (06).
ATTENTION !
Incorrect blade positioning can cause damage to the same.
