traininG:
It is the responsibility of users of this equipement to understand these instructions and be trained
in correct installation, use, and maintenance of this equipment. Users must be aware of the consequences of
improper installation or use of this equipment. This instruction manual is not a substitute for a training program.
Training must be provided on a periodic basis to ensure user proficiency.
DeSCription:
The Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL (Figure 1) provides both fall arrest and rescue capabilities. A Dual-mode
Selection Knob allows the user to select between fall arrest for assisted rescue, or self-rescue which lowers the
user to the ground or lower level. Available models of the Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL are defined in Table 1 and Table 2.

pUrpoSe:
The Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL is designed for Fall Arrest and Descent:
Fall arrest:
•
Ultra-Lok RSQ SRLs are components in Personal Fall Arrest Systems (PFAS) where fall hazards
exist. PFAS typically include a Full Body Harness, an Anchorage Connector (e.g., Carabiner) and the SRL. SRLs
are used in situations where worker mobility and fall protection is needed (inspection, general construction,
maintenance, oil production, confined spaces, etc.).
Descent:
•
Ultra-Lok RSQ SRLs allow the worker to descend to safety in self-rescue applications. The Rescue
Descent system typically includes a Full Body Harness, an Anchorage Connector, and the SRL.
liMitationS:
Installation and use of this equipment is restricted to the following limitations:
Corrosion:
•
Do not leave this equipment for long periods in environments where corrosion of metal parts could
occur as a result of vapors from organic materials. Use caution when working around sewage or fertilizer with
high concentrations of ammonia, which is very corrosive. Use near seawater or other corrosive elements may
require more frequent inspection or service to ensure corrosion damage does not affect product performance.
Chemical Hazards:
•
Solutions containing acid or caustic chemicals, particularly at elevated temperatures,
may damage DBI-SALA SRLs. When working with such chemicals, frequent inspection of the entire SRL must
be completed. Chemical damage to the lifeline is difficult to detect and it is recommended that the lifeline be
replaced periodically to ensure safety. The lifeline must be replaced by an authorized service agent. Consult
DBI-SALA if in doubt about using this equipment around chemical hazards.
Heat:
•
This equipment is not designed for use in high temperature environments. Provide protection for this
equipment when using near welding, metal cutting, or similar activities. Hot sparks may burn or damage this
equipment. Contact DBI-SALA for details on use of this equipment in high temperature environments.
electrical Hazards:
•
With wire rope lifelines, there is a possibility of electric current flowing through the
lifeline. Use caution where the lifeline may contact high voltage power lines.
Capacity:
•
The SRL is designed for use by persons with a combined weight (clothing, tools, etc.) of 34 kg
minimum and 141 kg maximum. No more than one person may be connected at one time.
locking Speed:
•
Situations which do not allow for an unobstructed fall path should be avoided. Working
in confined or cramped spaces may not allow sufficient speed to cause the SRL to lock in a fall. Working
on slowly shifting materials, such as sand or grain, may not allow sufficient speed to cause the SRL to lock.
