3. Basic Information Regarding Film
This section provides an explanation of various film characteristics to assist in selecting films and processing
options.
Film Varieties
The most widely utilized product is 35 mm (135) film, which derives its name from its width. Advanced Photo
System (IX240) film is a recently released product that is compact, easier to use and equipped with added
features.
The CanoScan 2700F film scanner accommodates both film formats. Please base your selection of either film
based on the camera with which you are shooting.
CAUTION
• The 35 mm and IX240 films are not interchangeable in their respective cameras. An IX240 film car-
tridge will not fit a 35 mm camera and a 35 mm film will not fit an Advanced Photo System camera.
• The CanoScan 2700F will not scan large-format professional films, such as 4x5 format films.
Color/Monochrome Films
The CanoScan 2700F can scan both color and monochrome (black and white) films. Moreover, it can scan color
film on a monochrome setting, thereby eliminating the need to use monochrome film for images that will be
ultimately printed in monochrome.
