Installing and Connecting the Equipment
Review national regulations and ensure that all appropriate regulatory licenses are obtained prior to
deployment. Before installation, the location of the ODUs needs to be carefully planned to ensure good radio
coverage and to minimise interference. Use radio planning tools such as LINKPlanner to optimise link
performance. Installation and commissioning of equipment should be carried out by trained personnel.
Basic installation of ODUs
1.
Pre-configure the ODU as described in the next section (section 8)
2.
Install the ODUs in the powered-down state
3.
Locate the ODUs so that the link is unobstructed by the radio horizon and no objects penetrate the
Fresnel zone.
4.
For APs, use a local map, compass, and/or GPS device to determine the pointing direction as per the
sector arrangement. Apply the appropriate degree of downward tilt.
5.
Attach the cables to the ODU as per the diagram below
a.
Connect an Ethernet cable from the ‘Data’ or ‘LAN’ port of the PoE power supply to the
Ethernet port of a suitable laptop
b.
Connect the drop cable from ODU to the ‘Data + Power’ or ‘ODU’ port of the power supply
c.
Fit the surge suppressors as shown and connect grounding cables as required
d.
Connect the power supply to a power source
e.
Waterproof the external connections
