Polled Management
6.1 Introduction
Polling provides you with the ability to access the COMMAND ports of a
number of SBU128s or other SmartSWITCH BACKUP products, from a
single command console.
Up to 7 SBU128s can be connected to the command console via a
Cabletron/Fivemere Generic Port Sharer SBUGPS. These can be
cascaded to provide support for a total of 999 SBU128 devices. Refer to
your SBU Systems User manual for details of the required connections.
There are no hardware changes required for polled management.
6.2 Configuring the SBU128 Polling Address
So that the COMMAND port of each of the polled SBU128s can be
individually addressed from the command console, each SBU128 must
be configured to have a unique polling address. This is set via the
Configuration\System\Poll Number menu. A unique number from 00001
to 99999 needs to be set.
This poll address should be noted, as the SBU128 cannot be contacted
without issuing the poll address.
If you are configuring SBU128s that are already connected to the
SBUGPS (or the Manager Card in the rack), you must disable the
lockout switch relevant to the SBU128 you wish to access. Once set to
polled the lockout switch can be enabled for that SBU128.
