Checking the brake system
1. Check whether the front and rear wheels lock securely when you pull
the respective brake lever one after the other. After a short brake lever
travel (max. 3 cm at the end of the brake lever) a pressure point must
develop/adjust. It must not be possible to pull the brake lever through
to the handlebars under normal manual force.
2. Check the brake lines for damage. With hydraulic disc brakes, no fluid
must escape.
Please also observe the further notices:
⇨ chap. 26 “Brake system” on page 142
and
⇨ chap. 53 “Checking the brake system” on page 170.
36
Checking the shifting system
• Shift through all gears: Switching must be easy; there should be no
blockages or unusual noises.
Please also observe the further notices:
⇨ chap. 27 “Shifting system” on page 145
and
⇨ chap. 54 “Adjusting the shifting system” on page 171
.

Checking the belt
1. Before each journey, check for foreign bodies on the inside of the belt
and between the belt and belt pulleys. If so, remove them.
2. If the belt is very dirty, clean it with clear water and a soft brush.
Please also observe the further notices:
⇨ chap. 28 “Gates Carbon Drive™ drive system” on page 147
and
⇨ chap. 52 “Checking the Gates Carbon Drive™ belt” on page 166.

Checking the e-bike system
1. Check whether the battery charge status is sufficient for your planned
journey.
2. Check that the rubber cover of the charging socket is closed.
3. For models with the Bosch e-bike system, check that the battery is
firmly seated in the lock and remove the key.
Please also observe the further instructions for the respective e-bike
system
⇨ section “Commissioning and operation” page 137.
If the e-bike system indicates a fault, contact your dealer to
have the fault rectified.
Note that a cold battery reduces the range. The battery
should ideally be at room temperature before starting the
journey.

Checking the lights
1. Check the function of the headlight and rear light.
2. Make sure that the beam of the headlight does not dazzle oncoming
traffic
⇨ chap. 29.3 “Adjusting the light” on page 148
3. If you take luggage with you, make sure that the luggage does not
cover the lighting.
If you notice a malfunction in the lights, contact your
dealer. Repairs may only be carried out by trained specialist
personnel.

Checking the screw connections
• Check the e-bike for loose screw connections. Especially the bolted
connections on the saddle, handlebars, stem and axles.
For a quick check for loose screw connections, lift the
e-bike about 5 cm and let it drop onto the tires in a
controlled manner. If you hear a rattling sound, locate the
cause of the noise and tighten loose screw connections to
the required torque.
More tips for locating and removing unwanted sounds
chap. 48 “Noise development” on page 160.
