Driving Coach Setup – Checking Speedometer Accuracy
Change the Gauge Setup to have the Speed displayed on the main display screen. See page 6 for more information about
changing the information displayed on the main display screen. Next, go to a safe place with little to no traffic where you
can perform a speed test. Make sure the speed limit is at least 60 mph.
Comparing GPS & GT Gas speeds
Use a GPS device or GPS APP to compare your actual speed and the speed displayed on the GT Gas. Calculate the Percent
Difference by using the formula below:
Adjusting the Speed Display
Using the method described above to determine the exact
percentage difference between the GT Gas and your actual
speed you will need to choose the opposite percentage in the
Adjust Speed Display menu.
For example, if the difference between your actual speed and
the speed displayed on the GT Gas was 5%, you should choose
-5% (negative five percent).
Example: the GPS reads 65MPH and the GT Gas displays 62 MPH what is the percentage difference?
STEP 1:
Calculate the difference in MPH (subtract one value form the other) ignore any negative sign
65 − 62 =
3
STEP 2:
Calculate the average MPH (add the values, then divide by 2)
(65 + 62) = 127/2 =
63.5
STEP 3:
Divide the
difference by the average
3/63.5=
.0472
STEP 4:
Convert that to a percentage (by multiplying by 100 and adding a "%" sign)
0.47×100 =
4.7%
