5.5.3.2
Firm hold
1
Place your entire body weight on the
handlebars with the quick release lever closed
to check that the stem is firmly in place.
The handlebars shaft must not move
downwards in the fork steerer.
2
If the handlebars shaft should move in the fork
steerer, increase the quick release lever
tensioning. To do so, turn the knurled nut
slightly in a clockwise direction with the quick
release lever open.
3
Close the lever and check the stem is firmly in
position.
5.5.3.3
Checking the headset backlash
1
To check the handlebar headset backlash,
close the quick release lever on the stem.
2
Place the fingers of one hand on the upper
headset cup. Pull the front wheel brake with the
other hand and try to push the pedelec
backwards and forwards.
3
The headset cup halves must not move
towards one another while you are doing this.
Note that there may be noticeable backlash
due to worn-out bearing bushes or brake lining
backlash in suspension forks and disc brakes.
4
If there is headset backlash in the steering
headset, you must adjust it as soon as
possible; otherwise, the headset will become
damaged. You must make the adjustment as
described in the stem manual.
