Place the retroreflector in target nest C. The laser tracker
will most likely not be pointing at the center of the
retroreflector in this position.
Manipulate the tip-tilt adjustments on the mirror
mount to direct the beam path into the center of the
retroreflector in target nest C. Make sure the tracker re-
acquires the target.
• Set the tracker software to show live data for horizontal and vertical (azimuth and elevation) angles.
• Note both angles while the laser tracker is aiming at the retroreflector in target nest C.
• Carefully remove the retroreflector from target nest C, and place it in target nest A. Note the horizontal and
vertical angles again.
• Calculate the difference in horizontal angles from nest C to nest A as well as the difference in vertical angles from
nest C to nest A. If both differences are less than 0.1 degrees, sufficient alignment has been achieved. If not,
iterate through the procedure one more time. For the NIST Interim Field Test geometry, no more than 2 iterations
should be required.
