When an array has been transformed to a larger size, you must use operating system tools to access the
additional space. There are several possible methods for expanding the existing file system on an array that
has been transformed to a large size.
•
Disk Manager can be used to extend a disk.
•
Microsoft provides an application called DISKPART that can expand any NTFS file system without
requiring a reboot. Not every array or disk can be extended—basic volumes, boot volumes, and disks that
have been converted from basic to dynamic volumes all cannot be extended.
The diskpart.exe utility version you need depends on which version of Windows you are running. The
diskpart.exe utility can be found on the CD for some versions of Windows or on the Microsoft website
(www.microsoft.com) for others. Use the correct version for your operating system.
•
For arrays formatted with FAT32, you must use a third-party application such as PartitionMagic
®
from
PowerQuest
®
.

Arrays can be made invisible to the operating system using the
Hide
command on the
Array
menu. This
feature is useful when it is important to keep data on the array available, but not actively online.
One example of this is when the split option is used with RAID1, RAID10, RAID1n, or RAID10n arrays. With
this option, an exact duplicate of the original array (at the time of the split) is made available as a second array.
You may want to hide this array from the operating system and keep it as a backup in case of a catastrophic
failure of the original array, or as protection against malicious software.
When you hide an array, the
O.S. Name
is displayed as “Hidden.”
To hide or unhide an array:
1.
In
Array Status
, click the array you want to hide or unhide.
2.
From the
Array
menu, select
Hide/Un-Hide
.
Note:
If you are unhiding an array that was created using the split mirror command, you may need
to refresh the window to see the partition within the
Array List
. From the
File
menu, select
Refresh
.
Caution!
Hiding an array that has a file system could be dangerous if all the file
system cache data is not flushed before the hide is performed.
